How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf
This recipe takes about an hour to make from start to finish and serves 6-8 people.
Step 1: Prepare the Philly Cheesesteak Filling
- Sauté the Veggies: In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers, cooking until they’re softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season: Season the veggies with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of garlic powder. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
Step 2: Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings. Mix gently until just combined—overmixing can make the meatloaf tough.
- Layer with Cheese and Veggies: On a piece of parchment paper or foil, flatten the meat mixture into a rectangle (about 1 inch thick). Layer the sautéed onions and peppers on top, followed by a generous layer of provolone cheese slices.
Step 3: Roll and Shape
- Roll It Up: Using the parchment paper or foil to help, carefully roll the meat mixture into a loaf, keeping the cheese and veggies inside.
- Seal the Edges: Pinch and seal the edges to prevent the filling from leaking out as it cooks.
Step 4: Bake the Meatloaf
- Preheat the Oven: Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake: Place the meatloaf seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Add Cheese on Top: For an extra cheesy finish, add more provolone slices on top of the meatloaf during the last 10 minutes of baking, allowing them to melt and become bubbly.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!
- Slice: Allow the meatloaf to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps it set and makes it easier to cut without falling apart.
- Garnish and Serve: Serve with a sprinkle of fresh parsley, if desired, and enjoy with mashed potatoes, a green salad, or roasted veggies.
