Cheesesteak Tortellini in Rich Provolone Sauce

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cook the Tortellini:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the tortellini according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

2. Sauté the Cheesesteak Ingredients:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef or steak slices and cook until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet and season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and set aside.

3. Make the Provolone Sauce:

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Gradually add the warm milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat and stir in the provolone, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Combine the Dish:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large baking dish, combine the cooked tortellini, cheesesteak mixture, and provolone sauce. Stir until everything is evenly coated.

5. Bake:

  • Bake the dish uncovered for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

6. Serve:

  • Garnish with chopped parsley and red pepper flakes if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
