Four-Cheese Baked Macaroni

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (about 9×13 inches) with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cook the pasta:
  • Boil the pasta in salted water according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  1. Make the cheese sauce:
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly for about 1-2 minutes to form a roux (thick paste).
  • Slowly add the milk and cream, whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add garlic powder and mustard powder, if using, for extra flavor.
  • Lower the heat and add the mozzarella, cheddar, Parmesan, and gorgonzola, stirring until all the cheeses are melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  1. Combine pasta and sauce:
  • Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring to coat evenly.
  1. Assemble the casserole:
  • Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  1. Add the breadcrumb topping:
  • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the macaroni and cheese.
  1. Bake:
  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  1. Serve:
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this rich and creamy four-cheese macaroni as a comforting main dish or a decadent side!
