How to Make Hamburger Casserole
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Brown the Beef
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Season the mixture with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Step 3: Combine the Sauces
- Stir in the marinara sauce and diced tomatoes. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta and beef sauce mixture. Stir until the pasta is well-coated.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 5: Add the Cheese
- Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole. Follow with the mozzarella cheese for a melty finish.
- If you like a crunchy topping, sprinkle crushed crackers or breadcrumbs over the cheese.
Step 6: Bake
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 7: Serve
- Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Serve hot!
