Homemade Hamburger Helper: A Comforting, One-Pan Meal

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Beef and Aromatics

  1. Brown the ground beef: In a large skillet or deep sauté pan, heat a little olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until browned. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  2. Add onions and garlic: Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant.

Step 2: Add Pasta, Broth, and Seasonings

  1. Add pasta: Pour the dry pasta into the skillet with the beef mixture.
  2. Add liquid and seasonings: Pour in the beef broth and milk. Stir well to combine everything. Add the paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, mustard powder, and smoked paprika (if using).
  3. Bring to a simmer: Stir everything together and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Once it’s simmering, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid.
