Meatballs with Potatoes and Cheese


Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (500 g) ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • ½ cup (50 g) breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

For the Potatoes and Sauce:

  • 2 lbs (1 kg) potatoes, peeled and sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups (500 ml) heavy cream or milk (for a lighter version)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
