Old-Fashioned Goulash Recipe: A Classic Comfort Food
How to Make Old-Fashioned Goulash
Step 1: Brown the Ground Beef
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the pot. Cook until the onion is translucent and the bell pepper softens, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 2: Add Liquids and Seasonings
Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well to combine.
Add the Italian seasoning, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.
Step 3: Add Pasta
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pot. Let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
