Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and grease a large baking dish or casserole pan with butter.
2. Prepare the Potatoes
Boil the sliced potatoes in salted water for about 5-7 minutes, or until just tender but not fully cooked. Drain and set aside.
3. Cook the Sausage
In a skillet, lightly fry the sausage slices over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes until browned and slightly crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.
4. Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
Pour in the heavy cream and milk. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
Gradually add 1 ½ cups of shredded cheese, stirring until it melts completely into a smooth sauce. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to taste.
5. Assemble the Casserole
Layer half of the boiled potatoes at the bottom of the baking dish.
Add half of the sausage slices on top.
Pour half of the cheese sauce evenly over the layer.
Repeat the layers: potatoes, sausage, and the remaining cheese sauce.
6. Top with Cheese and Bake
Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheese evenly over the top.
Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.
7. Serve and Garnish
Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes after removing it from the oven.
Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
