Sausage and Potato Casserole with Cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and grease a large baking dish or casserole pan with butter.

2. Prepare the Potatoes

  • Boil the sliced potatoes in salted water for about 5-7 minutes, or until just tender but not fully cooked. Drain and set aside.

3. Cook the Sausage

  • In a skillet, lightly fry the sausage slices over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes until browned and slightly crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.

4. Make the Cheese Sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and milk. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Gradually add 1 ½ cups of shredded cheese, stirring until it melts completely into a smooth sauce. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to taste.

5. Assemble the Casserole

  • Layer half of the boiled potatoes at the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Add half of the sausage slices on top.
  • Pour half of the cheese sauce evenly over the layer.
  • Repeat the layers: potatoes, sausage, and the remaining cheese sauce.

6. Top with Cheese and Bake

  • Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  • Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.

7. Serve and Garnish

  • Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes after removing it from the oven.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
