While the meat filling is simmering, boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk (or cream) and mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
For an extra cheesy topping, mix in grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese.
3. Assemble the Shepherd’s Pie
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Spread the meat filling evenly in a large baking dish.
Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat layer and smooth it out with a spatula. Use the back of a fork to create ridges on the surface for added texture.
Optional: Sprinkle additional cheese over the top for a golden crust.
